PARTY UPDATES

Hey Y'all! It's been a minute. I travel a ton for work and I have so much other stuff going on that any free moment was used to sleep. Those of you who know me, know that I LURVE my sleep, especially when I'm not getting too much of it. I have been keeping up with as many blogs as I can though so I haven't been totally AWOL.

So I caught up on the This Day Concert gist on Bella's, my sis Ms Minx, and DonChiChi's blogs and needless to say I am sooooooo jealous I didn't get to go. I will say that the amount people paid for the regular and VIP tix was a complete rip-off. Would they dare charge $1,000 for a Jay-Z concert here?!!!!! Are they kidding? But I guess people didn't mind since it was packed. I will leave the discussion of the social and economical siginificance/implications of the cost of the concert tickets for another time. LOL. The gist I got from reading posts on the event is that all the foreign artists were impressed with the whole event, especially the fact that we knew the words to the songs and such. Y'all better recognize......we Naijas are ALWAYS in the know!!!!! We may be behind the times in many ways but in terms of fashion and entertainment, FUGGEDABOUTIT!

So I've been wanting to post about someone I know and love for a while but haven't gotten around to it. Now is the perfect time though since he just MC'd the This Day concert. Y'all....meet my friend Tony Okungbowa. According to DonChiChi's account, he did a good job (even though ChiChi yabbed him small). I just spoke to him on the phone a minute ago and apparently he wasn't supposed to MC the whole thing, he was just supposed to DJ, and was thrown the mic at the last minute so based on that, I think he did a fabulous job. Tony used to be the DJ on the Ellen Degeneres Show and just taped his last show in early summer. He's working on various projects including a movie that I guarantee will blow EVERYONE away. I will bring you more exclusive behind the scenes gist when I speak to my sister and when Tony returns. You all be on the lookout for one of our own doing BIG things - he is very talented, very cool, loves Nigeria and is one of the nicest and most genuine people you'll ever meet. I'll let you all know how I met him another time, but he is on the way to bigger and better things and is representing Naija in a great way.

As for the Independence day party gist - I worked the door of the event o! I didn't get to party with all the folks cos I ws collecting the money - in fact, that has become a new part-time job for me, una come see me see trouble. More on that later. As for the party, I must say that folks came out.....come see lines and people coming even at 3.30 when parry go end at 4. I was a little disappointed because the guys were looking better than the ladies fashion-wise. I expected the ladies to represent in a major way but they didn't. As for me, I rocked my freakum dress and some green accessories - you know how we do! I was being toasted like crazy that night. Come see Naija guys with lines, Yankee guys with lines...LOL. A "former" was in the building that night and let's just say it felt good to be in demand...LOL.

The performances by Keno, Naira and ElDee were fabulous. ElDee especially brought down the house. For pictures of the event, head over to Tiwaworks website to check them out. I was also glad to see folks copping the albums and supporting the artists. If y'all haven't got those albums yet, please do so.

Without fail, Nigerians have to have some drama, right? Everything was good ALL night, until the end when some guys got into a fight outside the venue. It was ridonculous! Yes...I said RIDONCULOUS! Those guys wouldn't let up. What was it about? Na woman O! What else? But the police and security were able to break it up eventually without too much hassle.

As far as the event itself, it was a very successful one. Props to Tiwaworks and his staff....myself included of course...LOL. Stay tuned for the next one.

So now to my new part-time job. Besides working the door (which means I collect the money) for a couple of Tiwaworks events, including the "PERFECT FRIDAYS" which takes place at House Nightclub every Friday night, I have also been privileged to work for my roommate's brother at a couple of his events at South Beach on Roswell Road in ATL. You guys.....your girl has been hobnobbing with STARS, and getting paid for it. The first one I worked was hosted by Kelis, Nas stopped through for a quick minute, Andre 3000 from Outkast was in the house, the Clipse, Tigger from 106 and Park, a couple of the guys from 112, Elise Neal(who was with Tigger...are they dating?), and can't remember who else. Andre 3000 was the coolest...gave a firm handshake, talked about Outkast doing some shows in Africa later this year....just a very respectful guy. Then Sunday night, I worked the VIP door again at South Beach. This party was hosted by Jazze Pha so Sho'nuff was in the house! See Jazze Pha rolling up in the Range, stepping out and having his security actually put on his bright green jacket for him....na wa! Lil Lloyd came through, Slim Thugga in his green pimped out Dodge, Carl Thomas (where the hell has he been?), T-Pain (doesn't look any better in person...LOL) with his bright orange Caddy, a new group called Nephu coming out soon, some ATL Falcons players one of who tipped me some change, and my favorite of the night......DAVID BANNER!!!!! He was so respectful, and nice. We talked...he's also planning on doing some shows in Africa with Akon soon so look out for that. He's actually very well spoken and mad cool in person. I always thought he would be, but he was even better than I expected. So na so e be o! It was work till the early hours but it was fun work.

I'll stop here but it feels good to actually post after a long time. I don't know when the next post will be because I head out to SC, FL, and TN in the next week but I'll try not to be away for too long this time. Till next time, be good folks and don't forget to have some fun along the way!

Two quotes for you today:

If a man insisted always on being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad or become unstable without knowing it. ~ Herodotus

Fun is fundamental. There is no way around it. You absolutely must have fun. Without fun, there is no enthusiasm. Without enthusiasm, there is no energy. Without energy, there are only shades of gray. ~ Doug Hall

God bless u for bringing up the $1000 per ticket those bastards charged. I can't believe some mofos where actually dumb enough to pay that. I mean i can understand spending that amount on something tangible and worthwhile like shoes.....okay, maybe thats just my shoe-obssessed ass talking...lol...but i digress.... $1000 is just plain outrageous. I've never paid over $100 for any concert ticket. For $1000, i better be having a private preformance/dinner for a week with the celeb. I guess some mofos got it like that,....but even just 'cuz u have it does not mean u spend like an idiot.

@ Icy: Yay! It's official...you have a crush on Tony! LOL. I'd love to see what you have to say about him so blog on girlfriend. As for socialite....not really but i'm trying. LOL.

@ Tutsy: You are a trip! Just caught up on your entire blog. Like I said, I'm leaving that conversation for another time cos this was supposed to be a fun post. Even in Ghana, the most expensive tckt was the equivalent of $250. Only in Nigeria can they try that nonsense and get away with it!
