IF THERE EVER WAS A WORD TO DESCRIBE ME........

The closest anyone has come is Taiye Tuakli-Wosornu, with this awesome article. I identified with the characteristics and struggles he (she?) describes so strongly. Folks, I am Afropolitan. Are you? Read the article and then let me know what you think. I'm interested to see who identifies or doesn't.

Thanks Wande!

Afterthought: I was so excited about the Afropolitan article that I failed to metion that it is a part of a sort of anthology of articles, some written by familiar names, that attempt to answer the question "Where is Africa now?". Read the others if you have time as well. Peace!

ohhh gosh.
That site is a brilliant!. The article is genuis!!.
I do disagree with a small point though. When you are Nigerian... you are simply Nigerian. to other people you are half this, half that blah blah.. but when you are talking to Naija folks.. you be naija pessin or they will yab you. lol

But back to what's important.. gosh I have to bookmark that site.. it contains some of the most luscious articles ever. what many try to attain and achieve it does soo flawlessly.
I'm in love with it. simply in love.

that article was rather profound. its so true that we are no longer just one thing or the other, but we are becoming multi-faceted beings in a world that is rapidly shrinking - the afropolitan is a true citizen of the world.

if you have lived in the diaspora then your person will have been shaped by a series of forces extraneous to the culture that pervades our homeland. now you see naija people who ski, snowboard and skydive, practices that would still make our parents cringe and bemoan their decision to send us "overseas"; and its by no means restricted to us.

afropolitan. i like the word, and how it describes me.

thanks missy
