Really, WHY?!!!!!
I have watched as the weeks and the months have passed with more and more stories of kidnappings, and death in this region. In fact, I'm almost surprised when I don't hear anything about the Delta region. I have waited for the booming voice of the new government to speak loudly against these occurrences and possibly present a plan of action but alas, she remains quiet.
When will our government even begin to take some responsibility and attempt to address some of the issues in this region?!!!! Will it perhaps be when a child dies? Even though all human life is valuable, for some reason a child's life seems to be more valuable. But still, would it be enough to mobilize our ass of a government to do anything? I doubt it, and it saddens me.
For some reason, this story conjures up the movie "Man on Fire" in my mind. With the recent spate of child kidnappings, will the targets in that region need armed guards to protect their families, or simply lock them up so home becomes a prison? If the government doesn't do anything, perhaps we need a "Man on Fire" to go and take out all these militants. I am not a proponent of violence but maybe in this case......hell, I don't know.
I have to ask myself sometimes, are these militants really going about getting what they want in the best way? Hasn't their mission and message gotten lost in all the kidnappings for ransom and killings? What do they really hope to acheive with all this?
As much as I try to be optimistic about Nigeria, it is moments like this that almost successfully overshadow my optimism.

I just read that article myself, they have really sunk to the lowest of the low now-kidnapping kids.I hope this doesn't degenerate into something really disastrous.God help us in Nigeria
You make a lot of good points in relation to what is now turning out to be a very complex issue (especially with today’s news of the kidnap of a three year old girl). An issue that is pushed forward by a mixture of people who mean well and know they are being short-changed to a bunch of criminals that seem to operate under the cover of the Niger delta issue. Like someone once said - In the face of injustice we can become bitter or better; upset or understanding; hostile or humble; furious or forgiving.
its terribly sad what's going on in that region. I hope our new government (sigh) makes some drastic changes to the situation.
This is really plain ridiculous. These people have just lost any hope of being taken seriously at all. There are so many things to say but not the energy to say them...
Sad it has degenerated to this level where they now kidnap 3yr olds for ransom...it's disgusting, and these militant animals are worst than dirt; the scum of the earth and they all need to be wiped out!
This is no longer a Niger Delta issue - we now have criminal elements who've hijacked the struggle for a better cause into shameless criminal act and they should be brought to justice!
So now, kidnapping children is the new hustle in that region of the country... I don't know what to say ... I no longer bother to get surprised about any news i hear from Gidi these days...
Terrible!
